When looking for a producer, different bands expect different things from the people that they choose to work with. Some bands have different methods of working on their projects. To write this post, we wanted to ask a band what they specifically wanted from a producer.
We asked Quinn Mills, a musician from Toronto, what he specifically looks for in a producer. He mentioned that he wants them “to be very punctual and work pretty fast.” To stay relevant in a very quick moving industry, this is something that is very important. Quinn also mentioned that “a good producer also listens to suggestions from the artist and asks questions about what they want.” We agree, that it is super important that we, as producers, ask the artists questions; we want to be able to help artists reach their goals. Without a doubt, producers need to be able to operate Pro Tools, which is used to help artists get their music recorded.
It’s good to get a view as to what can be expected of us as producers; it helps us manage our skills. It was also good talking with Quinn to get his input on the topic. Any artists out there, what do you want to see in a producer? Leave a response on our Instagram or here!
